Ransom Eli Olds was the second son of an Ohio blacksmith. His father regarded the older brother as the more likely to succeed so Ransom left home and started the Olds Motor Company in 1897.  One of their early products was this Hit-Miss engine for farm use. Ransom also claimed to have built a steam car in 1887, and first gasoline car in 1897. The IIAH briefly owned an Olds Steam engine, which we regrettably sold. Ransom is of course best known for the modern assembly line and the Oldsmobile automobile.
